The Old Man’s Still Got It!

ps2

It’s a funny little machine, the PS2.  For a long time, it was outselling the PS3 quite handily when it was launched, and is still holding it’s own today, although it has taken a slide recently.  Probably due to the fact that nearly everyone on earth probably owns a PS2 now.  I still have mine, which stopped working for a while, then miraculously rose from the dead.  Anyway, it would appear that the PS2 is nowhere near ready to retire anytime soon.  Found out more astonishing details after le break!

I was reading Destructoid earlier, and they found some interesting information.  Nielsen, the well known American ratings company, collected some data on video game console usage over 2008 up to the end of October.  And here is the information: –

Video Game Console Usage

  1. PlayStation 2     (31.7% of total console usage minutes)
  2. Xbox 360     (17.2%)
  3. Wii     (13.4%)
  4. Xbox     (9.7%)
  5. PlayStation 3     (7.3%)
  6. Gamecube     (4.6%)
  7. Others     (16.2%)

The PlayStation 2 is still the favourite console amoungst people, and is still being played a hell of a lot too, apparantly.  The fact that the Wii comes in behind the 360 probably won’t be a surprise to most people who own both machines.  The original Xbox beating the PS3 is an interesting one.

Admittedly, stuff like this isn’t the greatest of signs of things, and you can’t read too much into them.  But a lot of people still likes them some PS2 action!
